The Village: A Kid-Sized Financial Literacy Workshop

How much can children learn about money management in 2 hours? A lot! Especially if they are playing and having fun. THE VILLAGE is a game-based workshop that teaches children the money value of money.

For children from 4- 10 years old, they will have a fun and engaging experience getting familiar with coins while they also learn the difference between needs and a wants. “Do I really need that new video game, or do I want it?”

For 4-10 yo

• be able to identify coins, their names and values

• define the difference between needs and wants

• explain the importance of buying needs first

• identify some ways they can earn an income

• identify ways to save money

• identify short- and long-term savings goals

THE VILLAGE is a game-based workshop that gives the children from 11 – 18 years old the experience of managing a month's worth of salary from their job. Will they have some savings, or will their expenditures deplete their funds?

For 11-18 yo

• identify their top 3 interests and name some potential careers under these interests

• learn about tax on wages

• learn about cash flow and budgeting

• learn to prioritize between needs and wants

• explain the importance of budgeting for needs first

• learn the importance of preparing for their future career through education
